Synopsis
Hugo Award nominated short story. It originally appeared in the anthology Anticipations (1978), edited by Christopher Priest. The story can also be found in the anthologies The Best Science Fiction of the Year #8 (1979), edited by Terry Carr, The Ascent of Wonder: The Evolution of Hard SF (1994), edited by David G.
