Founded in 1986 by John Pelan, Axolotl was purchased in 1989 by Pulphouse Press, who used the Axolotl imprint on twenty-six science fiction and fantasy books between 1989 and 1995, including books by Walter Jon Williams, Nancy Kress, Tim Powers, Charles de Lint, and Nina Kiriki Hoffman.
