Random quote: If the study to which you apply yourself has a tendency to weaken your affections, and to destroy your taste for those simple pleasures in which no alloy can possibly mix, then that study is certainly unlawful, that is to say, not befitting the human mind. - Mary Shelly, (Frankenstein) - (Added by: wecowo) |

Uber User Posts: 1057 | Administrator - 2016-12-08 10:30 AM Well, hell. I hate when they do stuff like that. Sure, we'll add them in as a new series to differentiate them from the Fantasy Masterworks series we have already. I do like the new covers. It gets weird when those who have read the books will have to decide for themselves if they'll mark these are read too or only tag that other set or the individual books etc. I pointed this out back in June, and you said that they would just not show up on the SFMW list because they're already on the FMW list.

Uber User Posts: 613 Location: New Zealand | NPR have but out their Best of SFF 2016 list. http://apps.npr.org/best-books-2016/#/tag/science-fiction-and-fanta... There are some interesting books on it that I have never heard of. Now that I have heard of them, I really want to read them. It would be great if these ones could be added: Every Anxious Wave - Mo Daviau Fear the Drowning Deep - Sarah Glenn Marsh The Lost Time Accidents - John Wray The Girl From Everywhere - Heidi Heilig A Promise of Fire - Amanda Bouchet (and it's sequel due in January 2017, Breath of Fire)

Ha! I don't remember these coming up before. I shall bow to my former wisdom and leave it as is. Getting old is a bitch. I don't really see a problem with adding them as new separate books, to be honest. They are already omnibuses. These could just be considered different omnibuses. I'm not too fussed either way. I have the original separate paperbacks, and I'll mark the omnibuses as read if I feel like filling in the blanks on the lists. Otherwise I tend to prefer recording the collected books separately.

These could just be considered different omnibuses. I totally agree with this. The geek completist in me says that if they're actually on both lists, they should appear on both lists, so that someone can see the accurate totals and percentages of how much they've read on both those lists.

WWEnd does not list self-published/vanity-press/non-traditionally published works. There are some exceptions for established authors who are self-pubbing their old works or if a self-pub title gets a nomination for one of the awards we cover but they are rare.

Uber User Posts: 613 Location: New Zealand | Just doing my bit to help us reach 22,000 books - can we please add: Jonathan Wood - Arthur Wallace series (No Hero, Yesterday's Hero, Anti-Hero, Broken Hero) Wayne Gladstone - Notes from the Internet Apocalypse, Agents of the Internet Apocalypse and Notes from the Internet Apocalypse John Harkness - Black Knight Chronicles (Hard Days Knight, Back in Black, Night Moves, Paint It Black, In the Still of the Night, Man in Black) Jason Nahrung - The Big Smoke - (This is book 2 of the Vampires in a Sunburnt Country series. Book 1, Blood and Dust is already in the database) Chris Adrian - The Children's Hospital There are also a couple of books I am not sure whether you would think fit into the database - I think they do, but I leave the judgement up to you: Escape from Baghdad! - Saad Hossain (includes Djinn and other supernatural creatures) Wolf Winter - Cecilia Ekback (it would fit magical realism, set in a place where the real world and spirit world coincide and mingle - includes spirits and demons) Thanks!

Veteran Posts: 116 Location: Sheffield, UK | Could you add the following books to the database please? (Apologies for the long list - I'm setting up my 2017 to-read pile...) Steven Poore: The Heir To The North (pub. 2015 Kristell Ink - 2016 British Fantasy Awards Best Newcomer nominee) Steven Poore: The High King's Vengeance (pub. 2016 Kristell Ink) - sequel to the above Lila Bowen: Conspiracy of Ravens (pub. 2016 Orbit) - sequel to Wake of Vultures Alan Smale: Eagle in Exile (pub. 2016 Del Ray/Titan) - sequel to Clash of Eagles Sophe E. Tallis: White Mountain (pub. 2014 Kristell Ink) A.F.E. Smith: Darkhaven (pub. 2015 Harper Voyager) A.F.E. Smith: Goldenfire (pub. 2016 Harper Voyager) - sequel to the above Many thanks in advance. Naomi Edited to add: I'm not sure how you'd classify Kristell Ink, which is an imprint of Grimbold Books - my understanding is that they're a micro- / small-publisher, so personally I'd consider them as part of the 'traditional publishers' umbrella. Uber User Posts: 1057 | This is a busy time of year for many people, so I thought I'd just post a reminder: Many of the current RYO Reading Challenges will expire in a week, on December 31. Once a Challenge expires, no more books can be completed on it. So if you have a chance, you may want to review your current RYO Reading Challenges, and update books or goal levels if necessary. Wishing all the WWEnders a happy holiday season!

Thanks v Are you referring to Sunbolt by Khanani? His sunbolt chronicles? It always helps if you give both the title and author, since I have to look them up to add them - and if several novels all have the same title...
