Extreme Veteran Posts: 556 Location: Great Lakes, USA | Since the day is almost over on the US west coast and I'm not going to finish another book before midnight, here"s my challenge update for November. November Books The Dragon Arcana - Trilogy, 35 The last of the Three Musketeers with Dragons books. These were fun. The Handmaids Tale - Masterworks, 35, Guardian, Banned, Bucket, EotW I see why this is a classic, but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Brown Girl in the Ring - Masterworks, AoC, 35 So much better than Sister Mine. Snow Crash - Guardian, Second, 35, Subgenre I would have liked this better had I read it when it came out. But, it was still ok. Master of the House of Darts - Trilogy, AoC, 35, Detective The last of the Obsidian and Blood Trilogy. Too bad there aren't more. I really liked these. Ash: A Secret History - Masterworks, 35 Started this in January and finally finished it. Too many descriptions of wardrobe changes in the first third, so I got bored with it and finished it mostly while standing in line at Chipotle. 2014 Challenges WoGF 12/12 Sequel 12/12 Authors 12/12 Ones 12/12 Bucket 9/9 Nebula 8/8 Pick&Mix 12/12 Creature 6/6 Short 12/12 End of the World 12/12 2014 12/8 Retrohugo 5/5 Banned 2/2 Trilogy 9/9 Masterworks 10/12 Guardian 6/7 Elizabeths 2/3 Second 10/12 35 30/35 AoC 10/12 2015 Challenges Killer Bs 1/3 Gemmell 2/4 Read Again 1/6 Choice 0/5 Subgenre 1/10 Detective 7/12 Favorite Book of November: Master of the House of Darts Favorite Book this Year: Annihilation (with Ancillary Sword a close second) I joined the Detective SFF Challenge since I have already read 7 books that fit it. I have already chosen the other five from my giant TBR pile. Six more to go to finish the 2014 Challenges + one for the Killer Bs which is done in January 2015. I should be able to finish since I have lots of vacation time over the holidays. Edited by daxxh 2014-11-30 8:23 PM

Uber User Posts: 770 Location: SC, USA | I read three in November: Witches on the Road Tonight by Sheri Holman, Among the Thorns by Veronica Schanoes, and The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell. I am also halfway through The Glass Bead Game (520 very text-dense pages) and The Golden Compass (generous YA word spacing). So that puts me with 2 challenge books remaining, plus the two halves. I have completed thus far: 12Awards Read More by LBGT Short Fiction WoGF Marxists YA End of the World Faerie Fantasia Pick and Mix The Ones Guardian I have these remaining (ending in Dec) the 35 34/35 The Second Best (11/12) Bucket List (11/12) Translation (11/12) AofC (11/12) Banned Books (0/2) (ending sometime next year) Gaslamp Fantasy (3/18) Detective (2/12) I think I am about to join the Published in 2014 challenge because I have several new book that I kept pushing back because of the challenges. Veteran Posts: 111 Location: Austin, Tx | Well... my reading pace slowed to a snail during the first trimester of pregnancy (before that i was knocking out two books a week and then I went to a single book in 6 weeks), so there is no way that I'm going to complete "The 35", but here is my progress: WoGF - complete! New books of 2014 - complete! Reader's choice award - 0/5 (I bogged down right when I was starting this) Sub-genre focus - 0/10 (just joined this one) The 35 - 20/35 Guardian - complete!
