Got this link via SF Signal. Brin lists his favorites in various categories (hard SF, time travel, quirky, humorous, etc.). And he recommends Worlds Without End at the beginning of the post...

Hey, that's bad ass!  David Brin is a WWEnd member though he's not tagged any books yet.  I was kind of hoping he would so we could compare lists.  Thanks for the link.

I should have mentioned that we met David Brin at WorldCon in Reno and he was totally cool.  We hung out at the Heinlein Society party and he came by our fan table.  We had a big ass monitor and I pulled up his author page so when he walked by he spotted his picture and came over for a demo.

We used that method to lure in a bunch of authors:  Robert J. Sawyer, Robert Silverberg, Connie Willis, Kay Kenyon....

What a fabulous list, unpretentious, and obviously interested in the lighter side of SF.After my recent remarks about even the most serious of SF writers enjoyed the old pulp authors,it was gratifying to see Brin say '' you arent really steeped in the genre till you have wallowed in Doc Smith, Edgar Rice Burroughs, and Conan''/Yay for David Brin!

Huzzah!  A sentiment I can identify with.
