A bit ... err ... pulpy?

"You are the nearest thing to absolute perfection that ever came into this imperfect world," he continued. "Just to think of a girl of your sheer beauty, your ability, your charm, your all-round perfection, being engaged to a thing like me, makes me dizzy--but I sure do love you, little girl of mine. I will love you as long as we live, and afterward, my soul will love your soul throughout eternity. You know that, sweetheart girl."

Oh, the woes of women characters in pulp SF.

Oh,isnt he sweet (Dusty swoons...)
Well at least he IS sweet.I am reading a Lester Del Rey novel, Police your Planet, about a hardboiled cop on Mars, and he has beaten up and knocked out the ''love interest' several times.True she has tried to kill him a few times but it sure aint sweet!...it is equal opportunity beat your partner up, I suppose.Think I prefer Doc Smith's hero!
