Member Posts: 5 | I read a short story years ago and can't remember the author or the anthology I read it in. A guy buys a Deusenburg and it takes over his life and eventually kills him. I don't know if it predates "Christine" or not. Can anyone help me find it?

Veteran Posts: 254 Location: California | It sounds vaguely familar. Do you remember any of the other stories in the anthology?

Member Posts: 5 | No, I don't. I've been remembering other car stories, one with feral cars roaming the wilderness with their dead drivers inside, and my favorite, "Mary Margaret Road-grader".

Veteran Posts: 254 Location: California | Well drat, I was hoping to triangulate in on the story though the other stories. The thing is the one I sort of remember was a Caddy rather than a Duesenberg. So maybe not the same story at all. I do love Howard Waldrop. Mary Margaret is a great story. Have you read Zelazny's Auto da Fe? Not quite the same but I always think of it when car stories come up.

Member Posts: 5 | No, I don't know that one. but I have several Zelazny anthologies that I haven't read. I'll look for that one this afternoon. I recently got a hardcover copy of "Creatures of Light and Darkness" after wearing out a couple of paperbacks. I think that one damaged his reputation among some of his fans, but I love those whacked out characters.

Uber User Posts: 857 Location: The Wilds of Washington | What popped into my head with this discussion is J G Ballard, his early early work. One of his collections like Vermillion Sands or Chronopolis. Have you read any of those?
