Uber User Posts: 202 Location: Sacramento, California | 2013 is looking to be a great year for science fiction! With the Tom Cruise movie Oblivion, Marvel's Iron Man 3, Primer's writer/director Shane Carruth finally has his next movie Upstream Color coming out, Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity, Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, and Orson Scott Card's novel-turned-blockbuster Enders Game, Man of Steel, the new Mad Max, World War Z, and J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, it's shaping up to be an exciting year for SF fans on the silver screen. The movie I'm personally looking forward to the most is Neill Blomkamp's Elysium, which comes out in November. Which SF movie are you most looking forward to next year? Which ones did I miss?

Uber User Posts: 202 Location: Sacramento, California | I have little hope for Ender's Game, to be honest. I just don't see that translating well to the silver screen. That's one of the few that's not really on my radar as a must-see. I would call the book a must-read, though.

Uber User Posts: 770 Location: SC, USA | I read the other day the Orson Scott Card wrote the screenplay with a movie in mind and that the movie contains very few scenes directly from the book. This could be a good thing or a very, very bad one. I also read that he left out all of the Valentine/Peter subplot because it did not translate to cinema at all. We will see!

Uber User Posts: 202 Location: Sacramento, California | So, of those mentioned, so far I've seen Oblivion, Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, Star Trek into Darkness, and After Earth. Upstream Color is now on NetFlix in the US, so that might be next. If I had to pick a favorite so far, I guess I'd pick Star Trek, though MOS and IM3 were both good, also. Oblivion might be my least favorite on the list so far, but even that one was enjoyable. No stinkers yet, in my opinion.
