Uber User Posts: 794 | We get very obsessed sometimes with reading the winners (at least I do). We forget the also-rans. A companion to the 12 awards in 12 months. Read 12 award nominations in 12 months. No award to be duplicated. Each book only counts for 1 award. Review 6.

Uber User Posts: 265 Location: Neither here...nor there | Thanks for making this challenge. When I looked at my books for prize winners for the other challenge, I was surprised at how many more nominees I had than winners. So your challenge is perfect for me. (Is it ok if I cheat on the twist and include one book that won an award but was nominated for another?)

Uber User Posts: 526 Location: UK | I was hoping to find a golden book that would work for all of my challenges - a masterwork written by a woman I'd never read that had won an award and was also the first book in a series. Now I've signed up for this one it has become impossible, thanks to the incompatibility with the 12 Awards in 12 Months challenge. Ah well. Edited by DrNefario 2014-01-13 7:57 AM

Uber User Posts: 794 | State of the Challenge (January): We have 12 participants. Welcome all. 8 Books read and 2 reviewed. No artwork as yet. I sent something to Dave but I don't think it thrills him. (I'm not much of an artist I'm afraid.) If anyone has any ideas. let me know. On a personal note of the 2 books I have completed, they count for the following award nominations: Locus SF: Vernor Vinge - The Children of the Sky Locus F: Charles Stross - The Family Trade Edited by justifiedsinner 2014-01-31 3:18 PM

Elite Veteran Posts: 1031 Location: UK | I am so far behind with this challenge!,Only 2 books read at the moment.I enjoyed picking books for this challenge. It took a bit of searching to find books from 12 different awards that hadnt won any at all,and especially finding something I could bear to read in the horror zone,or very literary awards like the PKD and Clarke award, took some doing! Still I am looking forward to some new-to-me authors there like John Scalzi,Joe Hill,Alistair Reynolds, Guy Gavriel Kay and Christopher Fowler.Let me get my visitors from USA prepared for and escorted around in early June, and then I hope for a nice summer reading.I dont mind the very early daylight, from 3.30am,I often get in a couple of hours reading before having to get up!

Uber User Posts: 370 Location: Beaverton, Oregon, USA | I am really enjoying this challenge! I've loved all but one of the books on my list. The one I didn't love, I liked: Winterlong by Elizabeth Hand. But I liked it enough that I'll probably read the rest of the trilogy that this book began.

Uber User Posts: 794 | State of the State for August 2014: Haven't updated this for a while so a big jump in numbers 122 read, 55 reviewed. Emil's still in the lead with 11 but there are 5 close behind with 10 (including myself). Hope to see several complete by the end of September.

Uber User Posts: 265 Location: Neither here...nor there | I definitely plan to finish by year's end. I'm spreading out my challenge books over time so that I have greater variety every month (rather than, for example, six vampire books in one month) so I won't be finished with most of the challenges until November or December.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1031 Location: UK | I thoroughly enjoyed this challenge, which took a little sorting to make sure the books hadnt won any awards. It ended up an eclectic mix,and some were very good, like Roadside Picnic,Tigana, the hilarious Going Postal and the update to Starship Troopers, John Scalzi's Old Man's War.The only disappointments for me were The Water Room and Revelation Space, but all in all an interesting challenge that made me stretch the envelope a bit, since I am not too keen on Fantasy or Horror. Are we doing it again next year? lol

Uber User Posts: 37 | Sofia Samatar's WFA win has knocked me back a book on this one! It seems like a lot of debut authors are making a splash in the awards this year (Helene Wecker, Sofia Samatar, Ann Leckie...) I'm going to move Samatar to 12 Awards/12 Months and replace it with Terry Pratchett's Going Postal in this one. I am still definitely planning to finish! My last hurrah for 2014 reading is a 15 hour plan ride in mid-December.
