Biography
Diana Pavlac Glyer is an American author, speaker, and teacher who was born in Aberdeen, Maryland, but grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. She received a B.S. in Education and a B.A. in English and Fine Arts from Bowling Green State University, her master's degree in Education from Northern Illinois University, and her Ph.D in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Glyer's work centers on C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and the Inklings, and she has spent more than 40 years combing through archives and studying old manuscripts. Her scholarly works have been widely published. Her best-known work is The Company They Keep: C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien as Writers in Community, which describes the interaction and creative influence of Lewis, Tolkien and the Inklings, and which overturned assumptions held for the previous 30 years and was recognized as a landmark study. The Company They Keep won the Mythopoeic Scholarship Award (Inklings Studies) and was a finalist for the 2008 Hugo Award for Best Related Book.
Glyer is a recipient of the Marion E. Wade Center's Clyde S. Kilby Research Grant and Azusa Pacific University's Chase Sawtell Inspirational Teaching Award and Scholarly Achievement Award. She was the Scholar Guest of Honor for the 40th Annual Mythopoeic Conference in UCLA in 2009.
Glyer is a Professor of English at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California. She has been active in science fiction fandom since 1975 and has worked on dozens of conventions. In 1998, she chaired Mythcon 29, the C.S. Lewis Centenary Celebration at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.
