Alvaro Zinos-Amaro was born in Spain, to an American father and a Spanish mother. He grew up in Europe, mostly, and despite the advice of his betters earned a BS in Theoretical Physics at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM) in 2003, after which he relocated to the U.S.

Alvaro's short fiction and Rhysling-nominated poetry have appeared in Analog, Nature, Galaxy's Edge, Apex, The Journal of Unlikely Entomology, Buzzy Magazine, Neon and various anthologies, such as Dark Expanse: Surviving the Collapse and the forthcoming The Mammoth Book of Professor Moriarty Adventures.

Alvaro has also published reviews and critical essays in The Los Angeles Review of Books, Strange Horizons, The New York Review of Science Fiction, and other venues.
