Biography

Dr. Norman LaFave has spent the last thirty years as a scientist, engineer, educator, and now author. He has done science and engineering work for the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, NASA, the FAA, and the Lockheed Martin Corporation. In addition, he founded an engineering consulting company, Dynamica Research, that specialized in space launcher design.

An interest in the education of young people and the innovation of teaching methods in science has led him to a high school classroom, where he is currently involved in the development of a creative engineering concept to teach and inspire at-risk students.

Dr. LaFave has a B.S. in physics and mathematics from Carnegie-Mellon University and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Texas at Austin. He has been awarded an Air Force Weapons Laboratory Fellowship, a National Research Council Associateship, the NASA Award for Engineering Excellence, an FAA Project Management Award, and the Texas Exes Award for Outstanding Teachers for 2010. "Nanomagica" is his debut novel and "You Want Me to Teach What?" is his first nonfiction book.

Dr. LaFave resides in Houston, Texas with his wife, Shannon, and two children, Jillian and Brock. He has a keen interest in the arts, literature, and public policy.
