There is no real point to this book that I can gather. As stated in the other reviews, Vonnegut is writing a satire on religion, but the story doesn't go anywhere. In a lot of areas it is patently absurd -- these are attempts at humor (I assume), but it does not work for me. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy does it much better.

It starts out tolerably well and a little bit interesting, but when Malachi Constant's memory is wiped, the book just forever goes downhill.

Perhaps meant something more in the early 1960's, but the book does not age well and not worth the read 50+ years later.
