After an apocalyptic event the majority of humankind is blind. That in itself would've been good enough to write a book about, but Mr. Wyndham thought that wasn't quite enough so he added a carniverous plant with a preference for humans. The story tries to answer some of the 'how would you react to a tragedy like this' questions with the aid of its characters, some try to use military force, some see religion as the solution. The end came rather fast and could've used some more explaining.
