2001

Like so many readers, I wanted to read this book, first of all, because I am a big fan of Arthur C. Clarke and also because I was left with too many unanswered questions after the Kubrick's film. Despite what has been said, I think it is great that those two are a bit different and unique, and both complement each other perfectly. Whilst the film's ending left so many viewers confused, the book provides a more complex explanation to the visual odyssey of the film. And I think that both endings were well-constructed and awe-inspiring.

Even though everybody is familiar with the iconic film, Clarke still manages to develop a remarkably rich and involving story, raising the questions that are still relevant today: are we alone in this universe? How did the humans came into existence? Are there higher powers? What is the next step of our evolution?

There are some similarities between '2001: A Space Odyssey' and 'The Childhood's end', as both deal with similar questions, but in their own way. They reveal human's curiosity on the origins of the universe, his search of knowledge and spirituality. It is amazing how much is the author interested in the topic of the transcendence.

The narrator does a very good job. And the author's intro to this audio-book was a pleasant surprise!
