It's very difficult to review this book without actually spoling the story. I The author has constructed the story interestingly, telling the story of Mori who has to leave her native Wales after a fight with her witch mother. Mori is sent to boarding school and ends up using magic to feel better.

There are two parallel storylines: what happens to Mori at school and what happened to her and her sister before she escaped from Wales. Mori is a teenager and I enjoyed the way her story was told, through diary entries. She tells the story of her sister in fragments, surprising the reader over and over again.

The story is full of references to fantasy/SF books, and someone has actually created a Goodreads list of all the books mentioned.
