Like The Invisible Man, my favorite part of the novel was the language. People just don't write or speak like this anymore, and we are the worst for it. Every paragraph seems a poem.

Most are familiar with the story. Written from the point of view of a dinner guest, a man only identified as "the time traveler" hosts a rotating group of gentlemen every Thursday. Over two evenings one week apart, the time traveler tells his guests a story of a great invention, and a great adventure. Most of his guests think it a strange tale, but the narrator sees just enough evidence to believe.

It was a very well told story, with much more theorizing about how the future world got to the condition that it was than in the movie versions. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It's a quick read, and worth your time.

Four out of five stars.
