Not quite as mindblowing asnParable of the Sower, but still an excellent book. Part of the problem, I think, is that there's a fair amount of repetition in the sequel as Butler gets new readers up to speed on previous events. I'd advise not reading the two books back-to-back (as I did); that might help keep the sequel feeling fresher.

This book made me think a lot as I read it about the fallibility of narrators. Not that any of the three major voices relating the story was your typical unreliable narrator, but each of them had an obviously limited perspective that never really cast doubts on the chain of events, but did prompt a lot of questions concerning how to interpret those events and what their underlying meaning was.
