My November WOGF review book is Octavia E. Butler's Dawn, a very compelling story of human extinction and survival with far less sex than the cover would suggest.

I found the story very compelling, and Butler's aliens are novel, really creepy, and extremely interesting. I was very interested in the concept of human survival only by interbreeding with aliens, and Butler explored this theme very well.

All the novel really lacked I felt, was wants somebody who thinks that 'trading' with the Oankali is a really good idea. As it stands, every human character in the novel feels helpless and violated and angry about it. Perhaps this is an understandable reaction, but the effect is that the novel winds up less of an exploration of the idea and more of a rant.
