The author takes off on an extension of the concept of super soliders in this work. There's very little new here that wasn't already developed in the first book of the series, only the focus and a new story line.

Unfortunately, the snark is back in full force. All the characters are sharp witted and always ready with clever comebacks, many of which are degrading but that's OK! The victims are just as sharp witted and completely invulneable to insulb.

We are, after all, not dealing with human beings in any way except the shape of their bodies, so they can be whatever the author wants them to be. Clearly, the author loves writing snappy retorts, comebacks, put downs and more, so the characters have an endless supply of them throughout the work. Even the aliens are the same way.

Towards the end, there is a galaxy spanning plot hole, written specifically so the author can continue with the next book. The hole doesn't get fixed thne either. Instead, it only gets bigger.

If you like witty dialogue, then Scalzi is definitely your go to. If you liike stories that tell about the human condition from a futuristic perspective, then this will be a waste of time.
