Ellison's Nebula winning tribute to his devotion to a dog. A raw, often profane and brutal story about a young man and his talking dog, product of a breeding experiiment before the world went to pieces. It's quite short, so it moves very fast, but Ellison puts a lot of effort into the relationship between the boy and the dog, which carries through the whole story.
A must read for Ellision and/or dystopic fiction fans.
A movie by the same title starred Don Johnson of Miami Vice fame.
