I love the comfort of a cliche, but I guess I have my limits. I wanted to like this novella, but I find Kiernan's maximalist writing style to be rather slow going. And as a result, I felt like I had to do a lot of work to decipher what ultiamtely felt like an overwritten summary of the pilot episode of a generic network TV sci fi series.
