I had some difficulty getting into this story as it seemed quite a while before much of anything happened. Listening to the audiobook version read by Tim Curry, peppered with his characteristic inflections, I couldn't help but notice that it was over three hours into the 8 hour narration before our adventurers found themselves descending into the Earth. Granted, the preceding was spent finding the inciting cryptic note, deciphering it, and then travelling from Germany to Iceland to follow its instructions but it seemed to take an inordinate amount of time to get the actual journey to the center of the Earth started. Not without highlights, however, I have piulled one of my new favorite quotes from its passages: "Science, my boy is made up of mistakes, but of mistakes which lead to the discovery of truth." This is the first Verne I've read and although my reception was somewhat lackluster to this particular book, I look forward to reading more of his work.
