I really love this book. The story-telling structure is creative. It's fast-paced and suspenseful (for a 19th century novel - but really even by modern standards) and doesn't get bogged down in the science (or, you know, "science"). And I always admire when an author not only has the courage to create a really difficult, even villainous main character - but also has the talent to make the reader still want to root for the character.
