A book of three quite distinct parts.

The first third focussed on the life of the red-shirts and made me giggle so much that my wife told me to be quiet. If you know anything about Star Trek, you'll recognise the characters and situations.

The second third changed the tone slightly as the characters realised their situation and took steps to change their destinies. This part had the most character development but was, for me, the least interesting section.

The final third, the titular Codas, are a complete change in the tone and pacing of the book. Although they are slightly jarring to start with, they actually add a lot of emotional depth to the book.

All in all, a good read and very different from Old Man's War.
