The Time of the Ghost was odd and creepy and confusing, and really good. The narrator didn't even know who they were until the very end of the book, so the reader is kept confused and in the dark the entire time as well. The main characters are four sisters who are each an oddball eccentric in their own way. (Something DWJ does very well.) The girls participate in the supposedly playful and harmless worship of the goddess Monnigan. Monnigan takes the form of an old patched doll, and it was very disturbing! Warning: If you are scared of creepy dolls, evil possession, and satanic cults, this book combines all three!

On a sad side note, this book is fairly autobiograhpical, and it is so sad to read about the neglectful, abusive parents. I cannot understand how those "parents" could be so horrible... Overall, a very engrossing read!
