- Story: Domestic, wild, and incarcerated (zoo) animals attempt to survive following the loss of their attendant humans in a Zombie Apocalypse. (The cause of the zombie apocalypse is hilariously ridiculous, though.)
- People: the main character is a pet crow, T.S., and his fellow companion animal, the "loyal but dim-witted" bloodhound, Dennis. Plus a large and engaging supporting cast of other animals.
- Setting: Seattle, present day. If you live in or are familiar with Seattle, you will probably enjoy this a great deal.
- Language: oh man, T.S.'s human companion was not the most genteel of men, to put it lightly, so T.S.'s language is, uh, vivid, as his is view of humans who are not his. I found this terrifically off-putting in the opening chapters, but as T.S. encountered other animals, and considered the state of the world in general, his language use modified quite a bit. (Also, there are very, very graphic descriptions of zombie behavior, ick.)
- Overall I found this book very imaginative and ingenious, with its characterization and perhaps setting as its greatest strengths.
