Choose one country and then read books that are:

  • set in that country or
  • set in some variation of that country or
  • written by an author from that country or
  • inspired by the folklore and mythology of that country

NEW FOR 2018: THE CONTINENTS CHALLENGE

Read six books, each set on a different continent (or a fictional analogue). You decide which six continents to include and which one to not include. For a more difficult challenge read twelve books, two per continent.

A combination challenge is also an option - read 6 books, one per continent, plus an additional 3 or 6 books that adhere to the original rules (one country).

Share what country (or continents) you've chosen and the books you've selected. Or ask fellow challengers for ideas and recommendations.

I am going to do two books per continent. I have lumped the whole of America together.

Africa - After the Flare (Nigeria) and Azanian Bridges (South Africa)

Americas - Certain Dark Things (Mexico) and Harbinger of the Storm (Aztec)

Antarctica - Austral and Our Lady of the Ice

Asia - Djinn City (Bangladesh) and The Song of King Gesar (Tibet)

Australasia - Lotus Blue (Australia) and The Wind City (New Zealand)

Europe - Waiting for the Machines to Fall Asleep (Sweden) and The Finno-Ugrian Vampire (Hungary)

And, in fact, I have already finished my first book of the year, the excellent The Finno-Ugrian Vampire. I worthy beginning for the year.
